Eligibility

Students are only eligible for a university examination if they have attended 75% of their lectures, demonstrations, tutorials or clinical work in in-patients and out- patients.

Professional Examination

The first professional examination is divided in two parts, each to be conducted by the university.

PM&DC Rule

According to PM&DC, students cannot be promoted to the higher classes unless they pass all the subjects of the previous class.

Examinations Rule

Written examinations consist of MCQs and short essays questions. Clinical and practical examinations include standardized multiple station examinations.

Internal Assessments

The scores obtained in internal assessments make up 30 % to the final total score of the candidate. Final university examinations of each subject contribute 90% to the total score, with the students required to secure passing marks on the aggregate of the total marks. For all examinations throughout the medical course the percentage pass marks in each subject is not less than 50, i.e. 50% in theory and 50% in practical.

Subjects of Dentistry:

Sciences of Dental Materials: The science of dental materials involves a study of the composition and properties of materials and the way in which they interact with the environment in which they are placed. The success or failure of many forms of dental treatment depends upon the correct selection of materials possessing adequate properties, combined with careful manipulation. A dental graduate is expected to understand selection, handling, and manipulation of dental materials. The Department of Science of Dental Materials provides education through lab and clinical demonstrations to the undergraduate students.

Community & Preventive Dentistry: The Department of Community Dentistry is responsible for undertaking measures to prevent dental diseases by proper and timely planning and implementation of preventive measures, with dental health care of the poor and underprivileged masses being an important responsibility. The department promotes oral health education through organized community efforts. The department also carries out school programs as part of dental public health

Oral Biology: The department of Oral Biologyis concerned with the nature of the oral and craniofacial tissues and with the application of basic scientific knowledge to oral tissues in health and disease. By its nature, oral biology overlaps the basic medical sciences and clinical dental sciences. Tooth morphology is part of oral biology which involves the teaching of shape and morphological aspects of each tooth individually. The students with good understanding of oral biology are able to provide best clinical service to the patients.

Oral Pathology: Oral Pathology is the branch of dentistry concerned with the scientific study of the causes and effects of oral disease. Understanding of oral pathology is essential for diagonosis and for the development of rational treatment and preventive programs.

One of the most important purposes of oral pathology is to give the student the ability to correctly diagnose oral lesion and develop differential diagnosis.

Oral Pathology is taught in 3rd year of undergraduate curriculum. A dental professional must possess a good understanding of causative factors, disease processes, clinical presentation, microscopic features, and diagnosis of oral and paraoral diseases.

Periodontology: Periodontology is that speciality of dentistry which encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their subsititutes. Maintenance of health, function and esthetics of supporting structures of teeth and teeth like structures is also a concern of this department.

The clinical training in the department of periodonotology is carried out in the 3rd year of undergraduate study. The students are trained to perform procedures like scaling, curettage, root planning, and polishing. The students are also introduced to the more advanced periodontal surgical procedures like gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, and flap surgery.

Prosthodontics: Prosthodontics is the specially of dentistry pertaining to the restoration & maintenance of oral function, comfort, appearance & health of the patient by the restoration of natural teeth and / or replacement of missing teeth & craniofacial tissue with artificial substitures.

Orthodontics: Orthodontics is the specially of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, prevention, interception, guidance, and correction of malocclusions, which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both.

The Department Orthodontics is actively involved in all the major areas of academic activities, teaching, research, service and patient care programs. The department is involved in didactic and clinical teaching of orthodontics in the undergraduate program.

Operative Dentistry: Operative Dentistry is one of the branches of dentistry that deals with the art and science of the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and prognosis of diseases or trauma to teeth.

The Department of Operative Dentistry provides superior quality didactic and clinical training to undergraduate students. The department supports the overall goals of the institution through teaching, research abd patient care.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers a comprehensive service relating to conditions of the face, mouth and jaws, including a routine assessment and treatment service for commom oral surgical conditions such as routine tooth extractions, impacted tooth surgery, pre-prosthetic surgery, orofacial pain, diagnosis and treatment of oral disease and odontogenic infections, surgical treatment of cysts and tumors of the jaws, management of tempormandibular joint diseases and treatment of trauma cases. Operations requiring general anesthesia are carried out at Ahmad Medical Complex.

The clinical training of the subject is imparted in 3rd and final year of undergraduate course. At the completion of the degree program the dental graduates are expected to have competency to perform simple and surgical tooth removal, diagnose common oral pathologies of mouth and jaws and provide emergency services in trauma cases.

Oral Diagnosis and Radiology: The department is responsible for screening and filtering patients for acceptance into undergraduate and graduate programs. The department of OraL Dignosis and Radiology is also responsible for comprehensively educating dental students in the art & science of diagnosis and treatment planning. The students are presented with numerous learning opportunities. Students learn radiographic and imaging techniques commonly used is dental practice and the evaluation and interpretation of the radiographic findings of these techniques.

Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology & Microbiology, Pharmacology, General Medicine and General Surgery are the subjects same as that MBBS programme.
