Eligibility

Students are only eligible for a university examination if they have attended 75% of their lectures, demonstrations, tutorials or clinical work in in-patients and out- patients.

Professional Examination

The first professional examination is divided in two parts, each to be conducted by the university.

PM&DC Rule

According to PM&DC, students cannot be promoted to the higher classes unless they pass all the subjects of the previous class.

Examinations Rule

Written examinations consist of MCQs and short essays questions. Clinical and practical examinations include standardized multiple station examinations.

Internal Assessments

The scores obtained in internal assessments make up 30 % to the final total score of the candidate. Final university examinations of each subject contribute 90% to the total score, with the students required to secure passing marks on the aggregate of the total marks. For all examinations throughout the medical course the percentage pass marks in each subject is not less than 50, i.e. 50% in theory and 50% in practical.

Clinical Subjects:

Include Medicine (Allied with Nuclear Medicine), Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology and paediatrics . Emphasis will be placed on correlation of instructions to general objectives, self learning and active participation of the students. Students will be exposed to common health problems of the community and will spend more time in clinics and hospital and will be involved in the day-to-day management of patients.

Medicine: Department of Medicine is headed by Prof. M. Naseem Ullah, who brings vast and rich experience of teaching at under-graduate level. Being the ex-principal and Head of Department of Rawalpindi Medical College, he guides the department of Medicine at IMDC to perform at its best. Medicine is one of the most important branches of medical scienes. In the last 50 years, medicine has provided unique opportunities for cure and control of disease aroud the globe. There is a continous process of research and upgration of medical support to ailing humanity and there is a continuous stride to improve it.

Surgery: Surgical Department is headed by Prof. M. Iqbal. The department includes general surgery, urology and orthopaedic surgery, to deal with major emergency and ellective surgeries. The special areas of interest are endoscopic and laproscopic, general and urological procedures. The Orthopaedic department has special expertise in endoscopic joints and replacement surgeries. The department of surgery is a pivotal dicipline in the field of medicine. The faculty comprises of experienced teaching staff capable of implementing instructional strategies and curriculum with modern principles and concepts. The surgical department offers integrated teaching and learning programe from its inception. Students are introduced to organ based learning right from the begining. The departmental, hospital and college libraries equipped with reference and text books.

Gynaecology / Obstetrics: Department of Gynaecology & Obstetricsis headed by Dr. Mahreen Mahmood who has vast clinical experience, being actively involved in organizing and managing academic affairs of Islamabad Medical and Dental College. Gynaecology and Obstetrics department of IMDC is actively providing clinical services to the patients in the Allied hospitals in addition to their duties of teaching the undergraduates. The department is pioneer in organizing basic surgical skills workshop for the students of final and fourth year in IMDC which is very essential for the learning in all surgical fields. Students have access to internet and ongoing research. To keep them update in the field of research they have been encouraged to take up research topics of their interest in the field of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. All latest books are available in the library for students and also in the office of the Head of department. Department has acquired models for hands on practice by the students. Students get exposure to the out-patient, in patient and operative procedures in the Gynaecology and Obstetrics.

ENT: Departmemt pf ENT is headed by Prof. Wajahat Bangash, who has more than 30 years of teaching experience. The ENT department of IMDC is geared to impart knowledge using highly skilled and modern teaching methodologies, Formal lectures, tutorial and beside clinical methods are the basic methods of teaching. Lectures are delivered on multimedia and in future will be able to connect with various members of external faculty in UK through satellite facilities.

Ophthalmology: Department of Opthalmology is headed by Prof. Naqaish Sadiq. PESSI hospital has a well-equipped Eye Eye department. The department consists of an eye out-patient department, a dedicated eye theatre and a ward for admission. Eye OPD is well equipped with modern gadgets like slit lamp, auto refractometer, applanationtonometer, indirect and direct opthalmoscopes etc.

Paediatrics: Department of Paediatrics is headed by Prof. Mumtaz Hassan.consist of indorr, outdoor and emergency department, indoor department consists of general paediatrics ward and nyrsery. General Paediatrics ward consists 30 beds and is fully equipped to cater to paediatric emergencies. Nursury has 2 incubators, 6 cots and phototherapy machines. Monthly turnover at this department is above 700. On an average patients 8-10 patients are admitted daily with a wide variety of clinical cases.

4. Regular assessment of students on clinical skills.

Islamic and Pakistan Studies: Students will learn the applied aspects of Islamic principles and Pakistan Studies, Scholars will be invited to speak on selected topics of the field.
